The master plan for Göttingen University Hospital is designed to set the framework conditions for a long-term building development of the university’s medical facilities.
The investigation of alternative concepts, from re-furbishing and re-structuring the existing structures to a completely new building, showed that the most economical solution was a step-by-step complete re-building of the hospital with the opportunity to establish optimal hospital structures.
After examining various locations, the outcome of the master plan is the establishment of a general development plan with five stages of new building, comprising seven medical centres on a building area south-west of the main entrance. In the first three stages the acute clinic will be re-built step by step. While the two existing ward blocks are being demolished, the central “UBFT” building will be retained and, after re-locating the clinical functions in the new building, will continue to be used as a pre-clinic and research areas.
On the basis of the general development plan, the first stage is being completed by LUDES and involves the central operating theatres and the neuro-head and heart centres.
