Essen University Hospital - Cardiology Clinic Description
The Cardiology Clinic is a 4-storey building with additional top floor slightly set back from the rest. With its angular extension it closes off the Operations Centre I building to the north.

The design incorporated the floor heights of the existing surgical area. The neurology department (which is at a different height) was linked up via a lift area at the western side.

A new staircase was built on the original building and is equipped with a lift for visitors, staff and walking patients

The centre has 121 beds and part of the project was to provide for the organisational linkup of the cardiology and cardio-surgery departments. As well as the standard operating theatre groups, a “hybrid room” was provided in the catheter laboratory for the combination of operative and intervention therapy.
