The new Elisabeth Carrée building at Gütersloh St. Elisabeth Hospital, which dates from 1985, is in the eastern part of the complex. It encloses a green inner courtyard and interconnects inpatient and outpatient areas better by providing several points of contact within the main hospital.
In addition to its hospital facilities, e.g. laboratories, stand-by room, outpatient theatre and physiotherapy, the new four-storey building will house doctors’ practices and companies.
The white stucco façades and green window strips of the new building blend in very well with the existing hospital buildings. Existing elements in the hospital design have been taken up and re-interpreted as, for example, the rows of windows offset under each other with different-sized panels in green. The glazed entrance and access area, which is covering multiple floors, is the dominant feature and marks out the building as distinct from the rest of the hospital.
