Hellersen Sports Injuries Hospital - Competition Description
Hellersen Hospital is part of the Sports Aid Foundation (Sporthilfe). It caters for all types of accident-orthopaedic sports injuries of an acute medical nature and also in the area of rehabilitation.

The basic idea behind LUDES’ winning design is to connect both buildings – hitherto separate – by means of a glazed entrance hall. This attractive entrance opens out to the valley and gives patients and visitors alike the feeling of being

directly at the centre of the hospital and its efforts. It affords short pathways to either of the buildings and to the entrance of the therapy garden, which itself is in full view.

The re-working and extension to the existing façades with generous window openings and contrasting materials and colours divides up the solid building mass into two blocks separated by a glass strip which seem to hover over a dark stone base.
