The HELIOS Kliniken GmbH group bought the Klinikum Krefeld in 2007. Currently, all the functions spread over more than 30 buildings. To reduce running costs, optimize operational efficiency and bundle diagnostic capacities, almost all hospital functions will be concentrated in new buildings in the western area of the hospital grounds. The surgical centre, with 18 operating rooms, built by LUDES in 2005, connects with the new building.
The new complex divides into four volumes: two ward blocks, with 650 beds, one central building, with 180 beds and an entrance building. A long corridor connects the four volumes.
From the entrance square and the entrance hall, one corridor connects the various buildings westwards and incorporates the vertical circulation to the other floors.
The three-storey central building leads off from the entrance hall. On the ground floor are service facilities and the cafeteria. On the upper storeys, there are a mother and child centre and a cardiology centre, with five catheter measuring units.
